Over the last few weeks we have been visiting local junior schools to deliver a workshop to their year 6 students to help them think through their big move up to secondary school. We visited 8 schools and delivered 9 workshops, giving each student an “It’s Your Move’ book packed full of useful tips, information and activities to work through to help prepare them for September.
In total we gave away over 250 books to students that were very appreciative and keen to engage.
The workshop gives them plenty of encouragement about making this step up and that they can succeed at secondary school, while giving plenty of practical advice. Students and teachers have found that it is perfectly timed as they head towards the end of their time at junior school.
At the end of one workshop almost all of the students put their hands up to show that they now feel better about going to secondary school than they did before the workshop, with one student commenting that ’they feel very encouraged and I have learnt lots about what is to come’.
We get feedback from all the teachers, one teacher commented that it is a ’really well timed workshop for year 6’ and another saying that it was ’excellent - lots to do, very interactive and informative for children’.
